50 Cent Change your Name |
To: Curtis JacksonRecently, rapper Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent sued fast food franchise, Taco Bell for using his name without permission in an ad campaign. The fast food chain playfully suggested that 50 Cent change his moniker to 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent.
Some people laugh at the fact that Mr. Jackson is filing this lawsuit because the rap moniker he uses to sell records is in fact a moniker used by a notorious stick-up kid by the name of Kelvin Darnell Martin (known as the Real 50 Cent).
Kelvin Martin (July 24, 1964 – October 24, 1987) grew up in the Bronx and was known as “50 Cent” for two reasons. First, people underestimated his stature; he was 5 foot 2 inches and weighed about 120 pounds. Secondly, he would rob anyone, no matter how much money they had in their pocket even if it was just fifty cents.
Mr. Jackson “borrowed” the “50 Cent” moniker long after Kelvin Martin’s death. The alias was not passed down to him nor given to him to carry on tradition (Curtis was only 12 years old when Mr. Martin died). Therefore this petition is a plea for Mr. Jackson to drop the “50 Cent” rap moniker he uses to sell records and change it to something else and allow for the name to die with its original owner, Kelvin Martin.
Sincerely,
