We, the undersigned, do formally state that we are citizens of Reading and are over 18, that we have drank in the Comrades Club as guests and have never seen behaviour such as that described in the Reading Post on 03/02/2009 from either landlords or barstaff, and that we are disgusted with entrapment tactics being used to gain evidence.

None of us, including the petition creator, are in any way formally associated, by means of employment, investment or family connections, with the club, its management or staff. This petition was created without the knowledge of Comrades Club officials by people who care about traditional pubs in the town centre, who do not wish to only be able to drink in identikit chain bars, and who like to see local business flourish.

We call upon the liscensing sub-committee of Reading Borough Council to listen to the local public to whom they are accountable and to grant a long-term extension to the Comrades Clubs current liscence. Failing this, a short term extension allowing for further enhanced inspection, so that the Comrades Club can proove its continued commitment to combating underage drinking and anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
