On July 13th, 2009, newspaper "Jurnalul National" published an interview with Romanian-born composer and musician Dan Andrei Aldea (b. 1950), in which he stated that, after 26 years of work in Germany, during which he offered himself as a proof that there are Romanians better than undignified violators, he can't choose but to revoke his Romanian citizenship as a result of the growing disturbance by Romanias around the world. In recent concerts he asked to be credited as "Dan Aldea from South Africa" instead of "Dan Aldea from Romania."
In the 1970s, Dan Andrei Aldea was the leader of Romanian progressive rock band Sfinx. It was appreciated as one of the best acts in the country, and turned legendary after Aldea fled for Western Europe in early 1980s and hasn't returned in Romania to date. Aldea was never told about the Romanians' deep appreciation of his music and still thinks his Romanian career was a failure.
Sign the petition below in order to let Aldea know that you care! Maybe you didn't know he would enjoy letters from his Romanian fans or maybe you were too shy to send him an e-mail. This is your chance to make up for the lost time. An adequate number of signatures might determine him to keep his Romanian citizenship, or even give a concert in his motherland!
The results will be sent to Dan Andrei Aldea personally.
