To:  US Congress and Judiciary

A recent senseless drunk driving accident in Denver cost two innocent women their lives. What is worse, as is frighteningly typical, their murderer, Sandra Lee Jacobson, was involved in a prior DUI which resulted in an accident.

The failure of the government to keep DUI convicts off our roads is a clear failure of the most sacred duty of government: to protect the innocent citizens off this country.

Myself and the undersigned demand the following be done to stem the tide of needless deaths:

1) DUI penalties be stiffened to help prevent repeat offenses. This should include, but not be limited to, real jail time, confiscation of vehicles and mandatory monitoring.

2) penalties for driving on a suspended license be stiffened to make the revocation of a drivers' license an actual deterrent to driving a vehicle.

3) Court officers and judges who release dangerous offenders to probation or other non-jail sentences be civilly and criminally liable should those offenders injure another victim while under probation or other sanctions.

It is time to stop the culture of complacency that allows alcoholics 3, 4, or 7 drunk driving convictions before they finally hit and kill an innocent family (as happened to someone I knew personally).

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
