We, the Concerned Citizens of Fire Island being residents, property or business owners in the town of Brookhaven, along with other interested parties, submit this petition for your consideration.
The undersigned hereby state unified support for the preservation of open space in Davis Park, Fire Island by voluntary acquisition through a collaborative effort. We urge you to support the Fire Island Land Trust in this effort.
The property in question is a 1/4 acre oceanfront buildable lot located on 5 Dune Walk, Davis Park, Fire Island, tax map number 200-987-2-52.2. The owner is willing to sell for a reasonable price. We understand that all environmental permits have been granted making a building permit and construction on this property imminent.
It is further understood that development in this area will result in a negative precedent, altering the area forever and potentially causing increased development pressure in other areas of Fire Island. Due to the fact that this structure would be located seaward of all existing development, there would be negative impact on both natural resources and the surrounding community including adverse impact on the dune habitat, reduction of beach access, and elimination of scenic views.
For the benefit of the community of Fire Island. We urge the Town of Brookhaven, the National Park Service, and Suffolk County to work with the Fire Island Land Trust and support their efforts.
