Coinciding with National Breastfeeding Week 2010, Haringey Primary Care Trust cut back on consultants for specialist breastfeeding support in the borough.
We, the undersigned, call upon Haringey PCT to acknowledge the value of having paid professionals for breastfeeding support to work alongside our volunteers. Money spent now to support mothers and babies to breastfeed successfully will mean less cost in the longer term, as breastfed babies and their mothers evidently have fewer health problems in the shorter and longer term and thus will require less NHS resources.
