We, the undersigned, encourage you to name a new major league baseball team in Washington, D.C. the Washington Grays. This name will serve as a living memorial to Negro League Baseball and the fight for integration in Washington.
Whereas: we rightly honor Jackie Robinson for the courage he had in leading the integration of Major League Baseball, yet forget the tragedy of the great Negro League players forbidden from showing their skills in the Major Leagues
Whereas: the Washington Grays would be a homerun for the business of baseball by attracting national media attention, giving the team a historic connection to the city and drawing Washingtons tourists to the team.
Whereas: good baseball Karma dictates that we not name a team the Senators after a twice-disappointing D.C. franchise, and instead name a team the Grays after a franchise that won eight Negro National League titles in nine years.
Whereas: Washington D.C., the nations capital, is the ideal place to remember the history of baseball and the fight for integration in order to teach about the importance of civil discourse in our country today.
Therefore, we call on the Washington Baseball Club and Major League Baseball to support the following actions:
1. Bring a Major League Baseball franchise to Washington, D.C. under the name of the Washington Grays as a living memorial to the Negro Leagues and baseballs integration history.
2. Build a museum at the Washington Grays stadium that honors the Negro Leagues and its players and addresses the historical impact of segregation on baseball and Washington D.C.
3. Create an education program that reaches out to the local community by teaching the history of segregation and the battle for integration in Washington, and providing the tools for civil discourse on civil rights issues.

Thank you for your time and support.
