Dercum's Disease Research

My name is Christina and I was recently diagnosed with Dercum's Disease, aka adiposis dolorosa, aka lipomatosis dolorosa. For anyone not familiar with Dercum's it is a rare, chronic and disabling disease that causes multiple painful fatty tumors to accumulate throughout the body. These tumors can attach themselves to nerves and create a great deal of pain. There are many other symptoms that accompany this disease including extreme fatigue, weakness, swelling of the hands, skeletal pain, concentration and memory problems, fibromyalgia type symptoms and weight gain. Most patients are misdiagnosed for years with other diseases or syndromes whose symptoms mimic Dercum's, and most often people go completely undiagnosed. Currently, there is no known cause, cure or effective treatment for Dercum's Disease. To further add to this tragedy, no medical research is being done in the United States and the medical community itself is very unfamiliar with it. All treatment attempted at relieving symptoms thus far have been in vain.

At this time I am asking that all people who are currently diagnosed with Dercum's Disease, as well as their loved ones, sign a petition to urge the medical community to begin research into this baffling disease. I am hoping to raise awareness and ultimately will contact the U.S. government about our plight. Thank you for your time and support.
