Ellen DeGeneres Spends $100,000 to Broadcast 'No on Prop 8' PSA

Dear Ellen,

Millions of people, gay and straight alike, around the world celebrated your wedding to Portia this year. It was exciting to see your new marriage on the cover of People magazine; we know that statement made a huge impact. And now we've seen your PSA taking a hard stance against Prop 8, the ballot inititive which would elliminate marrige for same-sex couples here in California.

Unfortunately, recent polling suggests that we are loosing ground in the fight for marriage equality. Our opponents, the YES on 8 forces funded by the Knights of Columbus and the Church of Latter Day Saints have out-raised us by nearly $10 million dollars. And what's worse, their offensive attacks seem to be working. Recent polling released by CBS shows us as much as four points behind.

It's a sad day when money from out-of-stage religious organizations can buy airtime to spread lies, fear and messages of intolerance across our state.

We are now facing one of the most difficult challenges we have ever faced, and the outcome will directly impact the lives of millions.

You have been a champion of LGBT rights and causes and a leader in our community and we all owe you a debt of gratitude. Your voice speaking out against Prop 8 makes a difference. But right now, the campaign organized to fight this discriminatory proposition is in dire need of funds. I'm asking you to put your money where your mouth is.

I hope you will consider pairing your outspoken activism with a substantial financial contribution to benefit the campaign NoOnProp8.com dedicated to fight against this un-American movement. You are a leader in our community, and I know other high-profile LGBT figures and every-day citizens who cherish freedom and equality will follow your example.
