We are UC workers who keep UC running and provide excellent service to
the faculty and students. Some of us are service, patient care, building
trade and childcare workers, academic student workers, nurses, editors,
librarians, lecturers, researchers, technicians and administrative and
library assistants. Last year we went out on strike in April, May, and
June to demand fair treatment and pay equity.
We have learned from the SF Chronicle about UC's questionable decisions to
grant secret perks and hidden bonuses to UC executives on top of their
generous salaries. This is painful news at a time that when faculty
search for fellowship funding to attract students from diverse communities
(our communities), student fees increase exponentially, and many of UC's
staff live in poverty.
We join with students and faculty to ask for a public and independent
investigation into UC's pay practices, especially the huge disparity in
salary between UC executives and the other employees who form the core of
the university. We also call for a legislative audit of UC's compensation
for all employees.
