A petition to get George W. Bush to be more environmentally friendly.

To:  George W. Bush, US Congress and US Senate

This petition is to let George W. Bush and his administration know that the people of the United States and the world are fed up with his anti-environment policy making. So far in office he has:

-Bush cut funding for research into renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, by roughly half.
-He’s proposed a ban on private lawsuits that force the government to add new plants and animals to the endangered species list.
-He’s also backed out of the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty on global warming, and broken a campaign promise to impose further regulations on carbon dioxide emissions.
-Delayed implementation of a Clinton-era rule that would reduce the amount of arsenic allowed in drinking water.
-The League of Conservative Voters gave him a D- for poor environmental performance during his first year in office.
-He appointed Gale Norton, who spent a career undermining the very environmental laws she was appointed to enforce, to be Secretary of the Interior.
-The appointment of never-met-an-environmental-regulation-he-didn’t-hate John Graham to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at OMB.
-A proposal to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as part of an energy plan drafted by corporate interests behind closed doors.
-Breaking a campaign pledge to curb carbon dioxide emissions at the behest of power companies.
-Absolving mining companies from the responsibility for cleaning up their pollution.
-In Montana after only 12 days in office, a long contested permit was granted to explore for oil in Weatherman Draw, a site sarced to ten Native American tribes.
-He appointed Mississippi congressman Mike Parker, who repeatedly sponsored bills to weaken the Clean Water Act, as the head of the Army Corp of Engineers which helps to enforce the law.
