Stop Trademarking of the English langauge for Domain names |
To: U.S. CongressCurrently, your congressmen are in discussions that would allow businesses to trademark words and phrases in the English language regardless of product type or service. This means that your generic domain name can be taken from you in a court of law if the company can prove that your generic keyword domain affects their business. An example would be a company that sells wireless routers. They can trademark wireless routers and bring a lawsuit against you if your domain name has these words in it. This is NOT LAW YET. This position is to let your lawmakers know that the domain name community will not stand for this violation of our freedom of speech in the electronic format. Please sign this petition and help us restore the domain name market and keep it intact.
Sincerely,
