Dear Mr. Abdullah S. Jum’ah,

We, the Undersigned, want to bring to your attention the decline of the magnificent Dorudon whale. The Dorudon whale, a graceful, marine animal, has been recorded to grow to be about five meters long. A carnivorous mammal, the Dorudon’s diet is known to consist mostly of small fish, squid, cuttlefish and other mollusks. What is unique and special about these animals is the lack of the ‘melon’ organ; the main organ used by other whales for communication. Although it used to call the temperate waters of Earth, particularly the Tethys Sea, home, the Dorudon whale has not been seen in the past several months.

Unfortunately, offshore oil riggers do not help the ‘disparut’ Dorudon species, which are susceptible to the effects that offshore oil riggers impel on their environment. Whales, which spend large amounts of time resting at the surface of the ocean, have a continuously increasing risk of colliding with oil vessels and riggers. Over the past decade, hundreds of whales have died due to collisions with ocean vessels. The placement of oil riggers in the Dorudon’s habitat also increases its exposure to hydrocarbons, which can impact mammal’s survival and reproductive success as well as the abundance of its prey.

As an offshore oil company with the largest offshore oil-rigging field in the world, we, the Undersigned, ask that Saudi Aramco decrease the number of oil riggers and vessels it has on the ocean, endorse a reserve for the Dorudon whale in the Tethys Sea, and endeavor in the worldwide effort in researching for a cleaner and wildlife friendly energy source. We, the Undersigned, also ask that Saudi Aramco diligently work to bring the issue of the Dorudon to international attention.
