To:  Resort patrons and other interested supporters

The American Indian Movement, Northeast Woodlands, is calling for an economic boycott against Squaw Mountain Resort in Greenville, Maine, where activities of a recreational nature occur year-round.

The owner of this resort, Jim Confalone, who resides in Florida, has steadfastedly refused to change the name of his resort, which is offensive to the traditional indigenous women of Maine. Confalone's arrogant stance is contrary to the spirit of the Maine State legislature which has banned the use of the word "squaw" as a place name. The new law cannot force a privately owned business, such as Confalone's, to change its name.

For a boycott to be effective, all people of good will have to be supportive of this action. The American Indian Movement, Northeast Woodlands, is asking for the support of all action-minded groups and individuals across the United States and Canada, Indian and non-Indian, to join in on this endeavor.

Confalone must be made to realize that he has to forfeit the name or he will forfeit the dollars.

For the respect of Indian People we do this.

David Spirit Bear Walton

Northeast Woodlands

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
