Grant Marco Chapman Clemency |
To: Governor Steve BeshearMarco Chapman killed two children, Cody and Chelbi Sharon, and is scheduled for execution on Nov. 21. He has asked that Kentucky kill him now, fulfilling his long time desire, after several failed attempts, to kill himself. He even termed this "suicide by court."
Certainly lengthy prison terms or life in prison without parole satisfy the need of citizens to be protected from one who has committed murder. Execution is NOT appropriate punishment for mentally ill persons like Marco Chapman.
We ask that you do not assist him in committing suicide at the hands of the people of Kentucky. Life is not ours to destroy. Killing is an evil we hope to overcome. We cannot do that by more killing.
We urge you to use the power granted you by the people of Kentucky and commute Marco Chapman’s sentence to an appropriate punishment that holds him accountable and protects society. Thank you for your serious consideration of this request.Sincerely,
