Ending Electronic Arts draconian DRM schemes |
To: Electronic ArtsThe current methods and DRM schemes that Electronic Arts have employed to "combat piracy" included with its current and upcoming PC games do nothing of the sort and serve only to set up unfairly strict controls on what anyone who has legally purchased the game may do with it. Setting strict install limits on games does not combat piracy, just the opposite in fact. All people do is release a crack to get rid of these limitations and other "security features", meaning that for anyone who does secure the game though illegal means will have no install limits or security headaches. However, those who have purchased the game, those who have done nothing illegal or immoral, are still at the mercy of these draconian measures. We the undersigned pledge to boycott and cease the purchase, piracy, and just flat out playing of all Electronic Arts PC games that include such punishing DRM schemes.
Sincerely,
