I think that running Daylight Saving Time into October and early November is a mistake. During October the morning sunrise times under DST become so late that school children and morning commuters are traveling in the cold and dark. In the northern US, sunrise times during the last couple weeks of DST are actually later than they are at the winter solstice!

There is an easy solution - turn the clocks back in late September, before the mornings get too dark. Unlike the summer when evening light is valuable, most outdoor activities during mid-autumn are best during the early afternoon when the temperatures are warm. And an extra hour of morning daylight will give us slightly warmer mornings.

We advocate a change in the "fall back" for Daylight Saving Time so that clocks will be turned back to Standard Time on the last Sunday of September.
