Evanesco forgery! |

For the attention of whom it may concerns at eBay managent
Dear Sirs,
I am a Harry Potter fan and consequently I also have great admiration for J.K. Rowling. I have read all her published books and meeting her would be for me a dream come true, not to mention owning a book signed by her. So, it would be quite the opposite to this dream to pay, and a large amount of money, for a "signed" Harry Potter copy that is actually a forgery.
Surfing through your website eBay, I was shocked by discovering that dozens of Harry Potter copies supposedly signed by its author are sold every day. These autographed books are very expensive, but what concerns me is the fact that in most cases we find crude imitations. J. K. Rowling herself stated that for every seemingly genuine signature, we meet between six and ten false ones. A very high percentage that puts us the Harry Potter fans at risk.
In some cases, forged signatures are very obvious and detectable, but the youngest fans are in the majority of cases unable to distinguish between authentic autographs and false ones. It is not their fault if forgers take advantage of their illusions. In other cases, the signatures have been copied so perfectly well that even adult fans would not be able to tell ones from anothers. Furthermore, many swindlers provides an "authenticity certificate" which is not more genuine than the proper signature but becomes suitable for deceiving excited buyers.
That's why I am asking eBay through this letter to change its policy concerning the sale of supposedly signed by J. K. Rowling books, for the good of younger (and not so young) Harry Potter fans. Actually, only forgers get a lot out of this situation. eBay should check the books to be auctioned at its website and verify which ones are authentic signed copies to allow its auction and reject the false ones. If this authentification process is impossible to carry out, we believe that eBay shouldn’t allow the putting of any signed Harry Potter copies up for auction, since only a few are authentic. Otherwise, eBay would be as guilty as forgers, as it´s deriving large benefits from a fraud that affects directly the users, who are minor in many occasions. This issue is very serious, so I request you consider my petition.
Hoping you will give this matter your inmediate, urgent attention,
