Fair Access to Education

To:  North Carolina legislators and candidates

Dear North Carolina legislators, candidates, and residents,





We, the undersigned, oppose forcing undocumented North Carolina residents to pay out-of-state tuition to attend North Carolina public colleges and universities. Like other residents, undocumented residents pay taxes: sales taxes, property taxes (either directly or, more commonly, through their rent payments), and usually taxes deducted through payroll as well. The same standard for residency that applies to other residents should apply to them when it comes to college tuition. Any other standard is unfair and discriminatory.





Education is valuable to us as individuals, and well-educated residents are valuable to us as a society.
