Dear Animal Rights Supporters,





Animals continue to be tortured in cruel experiments today. I was recently saddened to learn that Iams, a company that makes my dog’s favorite treats, has been accused by two prominent animal rights organizations of maintaining this practice.





According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Iams, an Ohio-based manufacturer of dog and cat food, has been discovered to conduct cruel experiments on animals. In 2002 and early 2003, an undercover PETA investigator witnessed the torture, which in his words included: "dogs gone crazy from intense confinement to barren steel cages and cement cells, dogs left piled on a filthy paint-chipped floor after having chunks of muscle hacked from their thighs; dogs surgically debarked; horribly sick dogs and cats languishing in their cages, neglected and left to suffer with no veterinary care." Also, In Defense of Animals reports that Iams' experiments involve a study which "the effect of extreme weight fluctuations on the liver forced 24 cats to become obese by feeding them a high-calorie diet immediately after being spayed. In another study to look at diet and allergies, 14 newborn puppies were manipulated with injections to develop allergens to various food ingredients."





Please join me in calling on the attorney general of the state of Ohio to carry out an investigation of Iams to determine if there are grounds to pursue criminal prosecution for violations of animal cruelty laws.
