Save Fraser-Hickson Library!

To:  Mayor Gerald Tremblay

We, the undersigned, demand that the City step up and provide
permanent funding for the free century-old Fraser-Hickson Library. This
privately-funded library has saved the City many millions of dollars in
service costs by catering to thousands over the century it
has existed. Currently, over 12000 members of NDG and the Montreal
community---including children and seniors---will be disadvantaged when
this library closes due to its diminished private endowment this
December 31st.

In addition to the obvious library services, it is also a community
centre! It provides a safe place for children to learn and play instead
of loitering or engaging in destructive activities your administration
would eventually have to pay for with our tax money. It is one of of the
few places in our area which provides a way for community members to
interact, play or collaborate. This social need cannot be underestimated
and losing it will hurt this large community in an unforgettable way.

Literacy and education is a right---not a commodity! Its importance
supersedes changing a street name by leaps and bounds!

The Fraser-Hickson Library has served us for generations. Will YOU now
serve us Mayor Tremblay?

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
