Flank and Defense Roads - On 29 January 1973, Chester L. Brooks, Director of the Northeast Region National Park Service, deeded 257.53 Acres to the City of Petersburg by Authority of U.S. Congress and approval of the President of the United States. Public Law 92-272 (86 Stat. 120).
The said Grantee and its assigns, covenants with the Grantor and its assigns, that said Grantee will use the hereinabove described land for PUBLIC STREET and PARK purposes and NO NEW STREETS, ENTRANCE DRIVES, or other DEVELOPMENTS shall be constructed in such manner as to adversely effect existing forts, historic earthworks or other historic features.
THIS IS A PETITION TO STOP ANY AND ALL PLANNED OR UNPLANNED DEVELOPMENTS ON BOTH FLANK AND DEFENSE ROADS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA. THIS PETITION DOES NOT PERTAIN TO NEW PARKS OR PLAYGROUNDS. THE UNDERSIGNED PETITION TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE BOTH OF THESE HISTORIC ROADS THAT THE CITY OF PETERSBURG AGREED TO DO.
