This petition is in regards to legislation SB 599 & HB 1137 that has been introduced by State Senator Joan Cater Conway and State Delegate Tanya Shewell. If you are unaware of this legislation, it purposes the ban of the production, transport, and sale of foie gras within the State of Maryland. This legislation takes government regulation to far in deciding what you can and cant eat. Even if you dont agree with foie gras, or how its made, doesnt mean the state government has the right to make that same decision for you. Banning foie gras because some people find it inhumane sets a disturbing precedent for the eventual banning of all meat and seafood products. How you would feel if you were unable to enjoy a crab cake in the state of Maryland because steaming a live crab is deemed inhuman? I know this example seems quit extreme, but this legislation enables a snowballing effect like this to occur. I can understand why some people would be opposed to foie gras, however, the choice of being able to eat it if I want to is a personal choice, not one that should be dictated for me by a state wide ban. Its not the job of the states to impose a minoritys moral standards on its residents.

If you believe in freedom of choice for all Marylanders then please add your name to this petition.
