As a resident of Foxboro I, like all of us, are limited to one choice for cable provider: Comcast.

Having a single provider of any service, be it telecommunication or other, violates the spirit of competition, and the people who suffer for said violation are the consumers.

Our bills continue to climb for no apparent reason. If we decide to save money and seek an alternative provider we are limited to satellite providers, which depending on our housing situations can actually be no option at all.

Verizon's FiOS has already been introduced to many parts of Massachusetts, providing another option for consumers to receive their television and high speed internet services. However, despite many of our neighboring towns having this service, as of now, this is not an option in Foxboro.

Allowing Verizon to install FiOS in Foxboro will give consumers another choice for telecommunication services. It also creates an environment where, in the spirit of competition, Comcast and Verizon will have to vie for their customer base by making their products both affordable and reliable.

Comcast is currently under negotiations with the Town of Foxboro to renew their service contract. Should the town continue to allow Comcast an exclusive contract we will once again be grossly limited in our options. This would be an unacceptable situation, one that guarantees that whatever Comcast wishes to charge, we will be forced to pay.

In signing this petition you are showing support for allowing other providers to introduce services to the Town of Foxboro, namely Verizon FiOS. A message needs to be sent to Selectmen, a strong message that states we, as residents and consumers, deserve better options.
