Release Dr Saud Al Hashimi and others from Detention |
To: His majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-SaudDr Saud Al Hashimi (MD and University Lecturer), Mr. Suleiman Rushudi (Lawyer), Essam Al Basrawi(Lawyer), Dr Musa A Qirni (university professor), Al Shareef Seif Al Ghalib, Dr Abdel Rahman Al Shumayri and Abdel Aziz Al Khariji have all been arrested and detained on the 3rd of February 2007th and were held in the offices of the General Intelligence Services (Al Mahabith Al Amma). Lawyers and relatives were not allowed to visit. There is a genuine fear to ill treatment and torture.
Dr Saud Al Hashimi and his colleagues are prominent advocates for peaceful reforms in the political system of Saudi Arabia. Dr Al Hashimi called for a constitutional monarchy and an elected government. He is very well known, for championing the call for the liberation of both Iraq and Palestine. He was in the forefront in delivering medical aid to Africa, Bangladesh, and Iraq in the first year of the Invasion. He campaigned against Abu Musaab Al Zarqawi in the Saudi press and those perpetuating the mass killing of the Iraqi people.
It is imperative that Dr Saud Al Hashimi and his colleagues deserve to be treated in accordance to the International Standards of Human rights.
We, the undersigned, urge His majesty King Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz:
1) To consider the demands and aspiration of Dr Saud Al Hashimi and his colleagues for the betterment of the political system in Saudi Arabia as a pre-requisite for any successful campaign against terrorism.
2) Dr Saud and his colleagues are the pride of Saudi Arabia and do not deserve to be treated as terrorists and criminals by the General Intelligence Services.
3) To unconditionally release Dr Saud Al Hashimi, and his colleagues, who are a force against terrorism and corruption in Saudi Arabia.
Sincerely,
