Firmware Update For Nokia 5800 with Kinetic Scrolling And Enhanced Homescreen |
To: NokiaDear Nokia,
As of September 2009, The following is Nokia's current OFFICIALLY announced touch screen phone line up.
-Nokia 5530
-Nokia 5230
-Nokia N97
-Nokia N97 Mini
-Nokia X6
-Nokia 5800/ 5800 navigation edition.
And ALL THESE PHONES have kinetic scrolling, and a homescreen with either the 20-contact carousel bar or widget support, EXCEPT for the Nokia 5800, which is your first nokia touch screen device, sold well over eight million till date, and is most possibly the best selling nokia device ever made, and is STILL selling much better than most of the nokia phones in the market.
You have announced a firmware update for N97 with kinetic scrolling. And N97 mini will have it by launch. So do the 5530, 5230 and the X6.
The only phone that doesn't have it is 5800. Is there any good reason for this decision?
The cpu and RAM specs of the 5800 and all other phones listed above are exactly the same. 434mhz CPU and 128 mb ram. So tecnhically, it is 100% possible for the 5800 to have these features. But why has it not happened yet?
Are we early adopters of the first nokia s60 touch phone, the 5800, lab rats for you? So that you may test out the platform and later dump us to give newer features and enhancements only to newer devices, ignoring the huge 5800 owner-base, I firmly believe and hope that this is NOT the case, and that is probably the reason why you have announced the 5800 Navigation Edition, which is essentially the same device as the 5800, with a lifetime navigation license as an added bonus, apart from the new color scheme. Now this means the 5800's life is extended by another year at-least. Do you plan to stop firmware updates and support right now, thinking that maybe its time for the 5800 to step aside for newer phones?? Then why did you announce the Navigation Edition? Announcing a new variant of the phone, dropping the phone's current MRP, yet still refusing to give the phone a crucial firmware update, It does not sound logical to me at all.
If you decide NOT to give the update to more than 8 MILLION Nokia 5800 users, we demand a really good reason for not doing so.Sincerely,
