Get To The Greenway! |
To: City of Raleigh, Wake County, State of NC DOT and Meredith CollegeResidents of the Ridgewood area of Raleigh, NC and other greenway users have until recently been able to use the Meredith College pedestrian gate at Wade Avenue to access the Reedy Creek Greenway and greenway bridge. Now anyone wishing to reach the bridge has to go to Hillsborough Street and double back – a four mile round trip to use a bridge that is ¼ mile from Ridge Road.
Issues:
1.It is dangerous for greenway users, especially children, to cross Wade Ave at Ridge Road. Once across Wade Ave., there is not currently a riding path/sidewalk along Faircloth or Wade.
2.The route is too long for most walkers and children to access the greenway from home.
3.The plan to add an entrance near the Palms Apartments at Horton St. is years away. That planned access will also be on Meredith property, which will still leave the college as ‘gatekeepers’ to our public greenway. Is there a better way for our neighborhood to access the Greenway?
The objective of this petition from Get to the Greenway! is to request an open dialogue meeting between greenway users and representatives from the City of Raleigh, Wake County, State of NC DOT and Meredith College to explore adding an access to the Reedy Creek Greenway by constructing a segment from Ridge Road along Wade Avenue.
Sincerely,
The Get To The Greenway!
