Save Ackerman Woods |
To: Village of Glen Ellyn and the Glen Ellyn Park DistrictWe, the undersigned residents and voters, do earnestly demand that the Village of Glen Ellyn and the Glen Ellyn Park District immediately halt any and all plans for the destruction of Ackerman Woods.
Ackerman Woods is publicly owned land located between Lenox, Riford and St. Charles roads in Glen Ellyn. Wetlands and over 340 trees in these woods are scheduled for destruction this spring. As a result of this project, stormwater flow across private residences will be increased, creating a potential flood risk.
Experts from the Morton Arboretum and other organizations have found that Ackerman Woods consists of trees up to 100 years old, 95\% of which are native species. The trees are remnants of the original grove of walnuts and elms known as Babcock Grove, the settlement that became Glen Ellyn.
Ackerman Woods benefits our community by providing stormwater mediation, clean air, habitat for wildlife, and natural open space that are vital to our health and wellbeing.
Sincerely,
