The United States Library of Congress serves to catalog and preserve the vast wealth of American culture and knowledge. In this vein it is necessary and proper that one of our most prevalent modern cultural icons be submitted and cataloged. Anyone with a television set and basic cable has seen the four a.m. infomercials for one of our most defining cultural icons, Girls Gone Wild. This series of videos has served to shock, and revolt, but also to reveal the most taboo aspects of American Youth culture in our age. With parents who were rock stars how did this generation rebel? It appears a sector of young women have decided the most available way is to reveal their bodies for a vastly distributed video series, allowing the whole world to watch them drunkenly expose and embarrass themselves. Underlying motivations aside, the cultural capital possessed by Girls Gone Wild cannot be denied. Never has such a voyeuristic, hedonistic display become so wildly popular and widely distributed. Girls Gone Wild is an irreplaceable view of current youth party/college culture and definitive of a widely undiscussed aspect of our present day. The necessary preservation of this cultural capital can only be accomplished with the voices of many demanding such. If you consider yourself an American, no matter your views on the content, you should be compelled to disallow such valuable information to be lost to the sands of time.
