PRODUCE CHIEF EBRIMA MANNEH NOW!!

The Gambia Press Union, United States Branch (GPU-USA) Petitions as follows:

- That journalist Chief Ebrima Manneh was arrested by officers of the Gambian secret police, the National Intelligence Agency, on or around July 7, 2006 and is therefore deemed to be in state custody

- That the statement by Gambias Attorney General Marie Saine-Firdaus, on April 6, 2009, that Chief Manneh is not in the custody of the Gambian state is unacceptable

- That the statement by the National Intelligence Agency, quoted by Attorney General Marie Saine-Firdaus, that Chief Ebrima Manneh is not in their custody is unacceptable

- That President Yahya Jammeh be personally held responsible for the disappearance of journalist Chief Ebrima Manneh because the National Intelligence Agency is directly under the Office of the President, and is directly answerable to the president

- That maximum pressure be brought to bear on President Jammeh, the National Intelligence Agency, and the Government of the Gambia to immediately produce Chief Ebrima Manneh and assure his family and the international community that he is safe and sound, or publicly admit that they have extra judicially executed him

- That pressure be brought to bear on President Jammeh, the National Intelligence Agency, and the Government of the Gambia to stop the unlawful arrest, detention and the infliction of cruel and inhuman treatment on journalists, critics, opposition leaders and supporters

- That the international community recognize that President Yahya Jammeh has absolutely no respect for the rule of law, the Gambian constitution, and the rights of the Gambian people

- That the international community therefore bring maximum pressure to bear on President Jammeh to step down from the office of President

Signed by the GPU-USA and the undersigned in April of 2009.
