At the NATO summit the Turkish prime minister Tayyib Erdogansaid that there was no question of a Danish candidate ever being allowed to take over the job of general secretary. Partly because of the Muhammed cartoons and partly because other muslim heads of state had pressured him to veto Denmark. Turkey wants to join the EU. The people of Europe have never been consulted.
