Adoption of the Term "Second Gulf War"

We, the Undersigned, and the members of APACHE (Association for Propriety in the Appellation of Contemporary Historical Events), believe that it is our duty as Americans living at this crucial time in American history to prevent the confusion of future American history students and budding historians by applying names to contemporary events only after consideration of the appropriateness and consistency of such names.

In this vein, we feel that the mainstream media have done our posterity a great disservice by choosing the moniker, "The Iraq War" or its even more banal cousin, "The War in Iraq" over the natural and consistent name, "The Second Gulf War." In light of the similarity of the war of 1991 and that of 2003, we implore all major news networks and providers to employ the name "The Second Gulf War," or, in light of the events of 1941-45, "Gulf War II," if necessary, in place of other, inferior names.
