Requesting the release of the Czech scientists Petr Švácha and Emil Kučera (supported by the Czech Entomological Society)

Petition for the release of Czech scientists Petr Švácha and Emil Kučera, based on argumentation of the committee of the Czech Entomological Society. Reacting to the present international discussion dealing with the detaining of Dr. Petr Švácha and Mr. Emil Kučera by the authorities of India, it is instrumental to consider the following: both are full and active members of the Czech Entomological Society, continuously taking part in entomological investigations all over the world. The specialization of the world famed and renowned expert Dr. P. Švácha and his colleague Mr. E. Kučera, excludes beforehand any commercial misuse of the acquired material. It is hard to understand that their scientific work is deemed criminal, based on possible misinformation and misunderstanding. Some of the press reactions dealing with this matter are bordering on sensationalism and are absolutely unacceptable. Without the hard work of professional and/or amateur specialists in the field, without their dedication and enthusiasm, the modern entomology, as well as zoology, as scientific disciplines, would not be able to properly monitor and assess both the short- and long-term changes that are happening in the nature of the planet Earth. The Czech Entomological Society, as a prestigious scientific body founded in 1904, stands firmly behind the two detained members, and warrants their high professionalism and hitherto integrity, as well as the scientific nature of the seized material. We confirm that the material was not acquired for any commercial gain.

PETICE za propuštění českých vědců Petra Šváchy a Emila Kučery na základě argumentace výboru České společnosti entomologické.

Na základě dosavadní mezinárodní diskuse o zadržení pana dr. Petra Šváchy a pana Emila Kučery indickými úřady je nutné připomenout: oba zmínění jsou plní členové České společnosti entomologické, oba jsou jejími aktivními členy, kteří se dlouhodobě podílejí na řadě průzkumů po celém světě. Specializace světoznámého a uznávaného odborníka pana dr. Petra Šváchy a jeho kolegy pana Emila Kučery předem vylučuje komerční využití získaného materiálu. Je obtížně pochopitelné, že jejich vědecká práce je takto kriminalizována jen na základě možných nejasností. Jsou naprosto nepřijatelné i související reakce v tisku. Bez práce specialistů ať už profesionálů či amatérů v terénu, bez jejich entuziasmu, by se moderní entomologie resp. zoologie jako vědecká disciplína nemohla podílet na sledování změn, ke kterým krátkodobě i dlouhodobě v přírodě planety Země dochází. Česká společnost entomologická, chápejme tedy prestižní vědecká společnost založená v roce 1904, garantuje vysokou odbornost obou vězněných, jejich dosavadní bezúhonnost a vědecký statut zajištěného materiálu. Konstatujeme, že tento materiál nebyl určen ke komerčnímu využití.
