A Call to provide information on the 3 Adbucted IDF Soldiers |
thank you for your concern. this petition was sent to the ICRC on sep 20 immediately after a rally in support of Israel at the UN.
To: Jakob Kellenberger, President International Committee of the Red CrossWe strongly urge the International Committee of the Red Cross to take any and all necessary steps in order to receive proof that the 3 abducted IDF soldiers are alive and well, and to help assure their immediate return.
As of today, the 3 IDF soldiers - Gilad Schalit (abducted in Gaza June 25, 2006), Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev (abducted in Northern Israel July 12, 2006) - have not been heard from nor has there been any indication from their captors as to their status. Under Article 70 of the Third Geneva Convention, every prisoner of war has the right, immediately upon capture, to send a capture card to his family and to the Central Tracing Agency.
We expect that the ICRC will act quickly and make every effort necessary to contact the abductors and ensure, at a minimum, the internationally required communication. We also strongly advocate for any and all assistance that the ICRC can provide in assuring the safe return of these young men to their homes.Sincerely,
