Save The HEATLEY BLOCK From DEMOLITION

To:  City of Vancouver, The Vancouver Public Library and Vancouver City Council

We, the undersigned, call upon the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Public Library and Vancouver City Council to stop the proposed demolition of the heritage Heatley Block (c. 1931) and two historic houses (c. 1898 c. 1889) , located on the corner of Hastings and Heatley. The City intends on demolishing these buildings in order to build the new community library at that location.

We believe that the optimal location for the new library is in the 1921 Lord Strathcona Elementary School, as offered to the City by the Vancouver School Board for that express purpose. This solution will allow for both the Heatley Block buildings as well as the 1921 Lord Strathcona Elementary School building to be saved from demolition.
