Sonic the Hedgehog! Is there ANYONE in the WORLD who doesn't know who this blue marvel is? The biggest videogame character of all time, the most famous cartoon character to ever bless our screens, the most widely used character in the history of cartoons. Back in the days of the Megadrive/Genesis console, DiC Entertainment released a cartoon, "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", which is widely available on video in the United Kingdom, although rare now, there are plenty of them, which thousands of Sonic fans, including myself, struggle to get their hands on. These videos are now seen as collectors items. I own 7 of these videos, and the Sonic the Hedgehog japanese manga film from A D Vision.(Bleh, awful translation and acting, I wish DiC had dubbed that one, maybe they could release a public dub one day.)
After this season of cartoons, with a grand total of 66 episodes of hilarity, a second cartoon staring the cool blue one aired, simply called "Sonic the Hedgehog". This was shown on Saturday mornings in the USA, which is is refered to as "Sonic SatAM". In the UK this was shown at a similiar time to the previous Sonic cartoon. I remember waking up SHOCKED to see Sonic again, but in this high quality of animation. This cartoon took on it's own story, of a big team of freedom fighters trying to win the world back from a much more evil Dr. (Julius) Ivo Robotnik, this time voiced by the incredible Jim Cummings. No videos of this were released in the UK, although the series has began to find its place on the shelves in America, 3 NTSC format VHS tapes are already available, and we assume and hope the rest will follow.
Following the success of SatAM, which was sadly beaten to the ratings by the brainwashing to kids show, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", a third series, Sonic Underground was aired. Fans had mixed views of seeing Sonic in a rock band with his two reunited siblings, the absence of Tails, and the eagerly awaited appearance of Knuckles the Echidna in a cartoon. This series had 40 episodes created, but only around 27 of them were actually aired. We have yet to see "Virtual Destruction" and its predecessors. As the show quietly dissapeared from American TV, and "Diggit" in the UK stopped showing it, many fans were dissapointed, and still are dying to see the rest of the episodes, or be able to just watch the old ones again. Heck, I'd pay all the money just to be able to see the entire collection of SatAm and SoUnd videos lying on my shelf next to my other Sonic videos.
So, we want to try to persuade (or beg) you, DiC Entertainment to spend a few moments transferring these episodes to VHS tapes, priced reasonably, preferably in the same format as the UK releases of the Adventures of Sonic series, 3 episodes a tape, tapes numbered in consecutive order so the storyline will work also the AoStH Chaos Emeralds saga, which was all together as one feature length episode in the UK VHS, entitled "The Quest for the Chaos Emeralds"... It would be nice to see the Sonic Underground Chaos Emerald saga (Floating Fortress, No Hedgehog is an Island, New Echidna in Town) in this same format, and to see the SatAM series(26 episodes) as an ongoing series. Both in United Kingdom and America, both contries are flooding with fans of the classic Sonic the hedgehog, which is slowly winding it's way back into popularity, the new games bringing back the old school style, overriding the "Sonic Adventure 2" style.
It would be great for the younger or newer Sonic fans to be able to see the real Sonic darting around with Tails, saving Knothole Forest, and blasting on his electric guitar, voiced by Jaleel White, nobody but DiC could capture Sonic's Attitude so well.
So please, take the time to look at the petition, each signature is another person who will be sure to purchase the videos when released. We want to show you how much money you're really worth!
This is for America AND the United Kingdom, not just the one. Fans in the UK, young and old, were upset when the SatAM videos were released in the USA but not over here in the UK. Thank you for your time.
