Petition to Help Save Baguio, the City of Pines

Dear President Arroyo,

Baguio City used to be the cleanest and greenest city in Philippines. It is said to be the summer capital of the Philippines, where people from other places can enjoy the cool breeze and the friendly environment the city could offer. In the morning there is a light mist in the air and when you walk through it you feel as though you are walking through silk. Thousands of pine trees cover the mountains and you could hear the sound of the leaves as the wind gently sweeps through the deep mountains of the city.

Recently, the people of Baguio encountered its worst dilemma, a dilemma that could permanently destroy the city of Baguio. The sudden closure of Baguio City’s dump site led to a major problem, causing the city to be the dirtiest stinking city in Philippines. Tons of thrash are dumped on every streets of Baguio. Those uncollected garbage could clog the drainage systems, causing major floods on some parts of the City when it rains. The mountains of thrash one finds everywhere exposes a disgusting foul odor, and flies flying everywhere. Many of Baguio’s young children are having health issues because of the garbage.

Madam President, city officials and the people of Baguio are trying their very best to resolve the garbage issue, but it is high time for the national government to assign a committee to resolve this problem as soon as possible. The people of Baguio are willing to help on whatever plans the government may have. As of now, we are asking for a quick solution regarding the garbage problem of Baguio City. There has been talks regarding the issue, but the people of Baguio are looking for an immediate solution.


We, the people of Baguio are asking you not to take this appeal for granted. We pray that you heed our most fervent appeal, Your Excellency.
