An open letter to Flagship Studios:
We request that Flagship Studios abandon its subscription-based structure for the online multiplayer component of Hellgate: London.
We are firm believers in the vision of Hellgate: London, and believe in its future and in its potential. However, the subscription model that Flagship Studios has introduced serves only to segregate the community into haves and have-nots; it is not feasible in the current market, as it does not represent equivalent or significant value when compared to similar Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) titles. Compared to titles that charge similar monthly fees, Hellgate: London only offers, approximately, ONE TENTH the content and gameplay.
To the owners and operators of Flagship Studios: We, your fans and customers, believe that the subscription model is a critical flaw in the operation of your game, and is a threat to the future of Hellgate: London. If the survival of this game that we love is dependant on subscription income, we feel it will not survive. Please, consider alternative methods of income. Online games such as Guild Wars by NCSoft and Everquest 2 by Sony Online Entertainment, have proven the feasibility of sustainable franchises based off of adventure packs or major content upgrades requiring purchase.
Hellgate: London is ideally suited for this payment structure. Furthermore, the stated timeline of new content ever Quarter is similar to that of Guild Wars, which has proven to be very successful, as well as profitable. Equivalent, if not equal, income could be achieved on a quarterly basis. Not only would this help guarantee the future of Hellgate: London, but it would allow players the choice of which additional content to purchase and when to purchase it. We wont have to suffer the locking and unlocking of characters, content areas, and items based on whether or not weve paid month-to-month. Lastly, ending subscriptions will level the field for all players and allow us to just have fun together and enjoy the community we have found in your game.
We love what you have started. Let your game become the amazing experience we know it can be.
