Halt the #1 Highway Expansion Project |
To: Legislative Assembly of British ColumbiaWe, the undersigned residents of East Vancouver and of the Greater Vancouver Region, are opposed to the #1 Highway expansion project between Vancouver and Langley, and draw the attention of the Legislative Assembly to the following,
WHEREAS residents of the Greater Vancouver Region will be forced to contend with more traffic, more noise and more pollution;
WHEREAS alternative, more sustainable solutions including freight rail and public transportation are not being considered;
WHEREAS this project undermines the objectives of Canada’s Climate Change commitments;
AND WHEREAS there has been no transparency and no public process within the #1 Highway expansion project, including the allocation of $1-billion of public funds to a highway citizens have not been allowed to comment on;
THEREFORE your petitioners call upon the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to stop the #1 Highway expansion as outlined in the following motion, which reads:
That, in the opinion of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia,
the #1 Highway expansion project be stopped, and a public
process be developed that allows citizens to contribute directly to
ecologically sustainable solutions.
