Lipstick Recall

Because the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) refuses to even acknowledge that lead in lipstick is a health risk, we urge you to sign this petition.

Our lipstick recall petition demanding that the FDA take action and issue a lipstick recall for brands with lead levels higher than the FDA standard of 0.1 ppm allowed for human food consumption.

Every woman knows that lipstick continually dissolves and is repeatedly ingested over time, requiring reapplication several times a day. It is scientific fact that lead causes damage to developing reproductive organs as well as brain damage, retardation, and a host of physical and mental developmental problems in children.

Given the fact that ingesting lead is then an extremely high risk health factor for teen girls and pregnant or nursing women, don't you think the FDA should take action?

The Food and Drug Adminstration has been made aware of concerns about lead in lipstick many times in the past, but has adamantly refused to investigate.

"Many of the reports we've received have been urban legends," said FDA spokesperson Stephanie Kwisnek on October 11, 2007. She added the agency has no plans to take action despite the latest report of alarming lead levels in lipstick found by the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics during extensive scientific tests in independent testing labs.

Let your voice be heard! Demand that the FDA do its job and protect American consumers from hazardous levels of lead in lipstick.
