An Oscar (and other awards) for Harold and Kumar!

It is time for movie award season.

We have been seeing advertisements titled "For Your Consideration" for the past few weeks. Amongst so many movies vying for nominations, including long shots, we have yet to see any ad titled "For Your Consideration: Best Actor (Comedy): John Cho", "For Your Consideration: Best Actor(Comedy): Kal Penn", "For Your Consideration: Best Picture(Comedy): Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" and others.

Granted, the movie was crushed by "Manchurian Candidate", "The Village" and "The Bourne Supremacy" at the box office. However, that should not be the only consideration when you promote movies for possible nomination. Do you remember when you heavily promoted this movie right before the theatrical release earlier this year? This movie made history. This is one of the very few major theatrical release films with Asian American male leads - ever.

Yes, Asian AMERICAN. Not foreign-born Asian. That meant a lot for many of us.

Plus the film had a strong acting ensemble and the script was brilliantly written. It was more than just a screwball comedy. It made a strong statement against racism and stereotypes without any preaching tone. Based on this factor alone, we believe that the movie deserves consideration in this upcoming award season. Even if it didn't do well at the box office, the critics raved about this movie overall.

The chance of this movie or stars John Cho or Kal Penn winning an Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG award or WGA award may be a long shot at best. However, that should not stop you from promoting this movie for award nominations. You took a chance this summer. You can do it again. There are still too many people who have never heard of this movie because of other blockbusters. Please spread the word again during this award season.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, urge you to:

(1) Submit the film for ALL film awards, including various critics award or minor awards for consideration before it is too late.

(2) Start holding screenings for award voters to make this movie's presence known.

(3) Consider making a sequel and if that happens, make sure that "Harold and Kumar II" stays in the award race.

This is the best chance to give this movie a second chance, along with upcoming DVD release.

Make it happen. Because only New Line publicity can.
