Sub: Citizens' petition to hang Mohammed Afzal Guru
Madam President,
We the undersigned request you to advise the government to fulfill the orders of the Supreme Court to hang Mohammed Afzal Guru, found guilty of masterminding the attack against the Indian Parliament on 13th December, 2001.
Seven years have passed since that day when the highest body representing the collective voice of the people of India was attacked by Jihadi terrorists.
This timeless civilization rooted in the perfect and flawless laws of Sanatana Dharma, is also the world's largest democracy. The Republic of India takes rightful pride in the ultimate justice unfailingly rendered by her legal and judicial instititutions.
Afzal Guru was found guilty by the nation's highest court of justice - The Supreme Court of India. The Apex Court was careful to observe all due processes of law. The accused was provided with legal aid; he was given access to successive courts of law to plead his case and was finally found guilty and sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of India.
His petition for clemency asking for commuting the death sentence to the President of India has been returned to the Government of India.
We request you Madam President to send the reassuring signal to all our citizens that the Government of India is committed to fighting terror resolutely and also committed to respecting judgments delivered by our courts of law.
Respect for the judgments of our courts of law is only respecting rule of law and the due process of law which the Indian State guarantees to all its citizens.
In the wake of the latest terror attack in Mumbai against the Indian nation, her people and her self-dignity, it is time to fulfill the judgment of the Supreme Court of India and hang Afzal Guru.
The nation demands that terrorists be showed no mercy.
We the undersigned citizens request Her Excellency, the President of India, to listen to the voice of the people of India and advise the Government of India in your capacity as Head of State, to carry out the punishment meted to Afzal Guru, the terrorist who was found guilty of attacking the Indian Parliament, by hanging him to death
Thanking you, Your Excellency,
Respectfully,
Her Excellency, Hon'ble the President of India,
Srimathi Prathibha Patil
