No forced update of PSP firmware or possibility to run homebrew software |
To: Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, USA & EuropeDear Sony Computer Entertainment,
following your recent attempts to stop the developers of homebrew software, we ask you to stop such actions and do not pursue your policy of forced firmware updates on newly released PSP games.
We fully understand that you can not condone software piracy, but most of the people using and developing homebrew software are just interested in either training their programming skills or playing games that they grew to love over the years on their PSPs. We see nothing wrong in that. If you gave out public keys to certain approved developers, there would be no need to hack the hardware anymore, resulting in less illegal piracy.
Forced updates are also going to harm your sales, because people who might have wanted to buy a game will not do so if they can not run the homebrew software they used to run. Also, if developers fail to sell enough units, they might stop developing for the platform. We ask you now to stop forced updates, and if that is not possible due to new implemented features that are used by those games, at least give homebrew programmers the chance to develop programs to their hearts content.
Sincerely,
