David Yates should kill himself |
To: Book fans of Harry PotterDavid Yates took it too far with the newly released Half-Blood Prince movie. In fact, in addition to signing this petition to petition David Yate's crappyness, you hereby agree that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince shall be renamed Harry Potter and the Dark Knight.
This petition is about:
David Yates and his continual ruining of the franchise
David Yates and his 'artistic' (read: unnecessary) changes to the franchise
Overall crappyness of the movies
These are general problems that took Half-Blood Prince into a general aura of crappyness:
- Artistic direction. I was not the first to say "Wtf?" in my theater. Somehow David Yates' 'artistic' direction left there to be a completely different style of direction (hence HP and the Dark Knight.) and a color palette with the only color being 'none with a tinge of green'. Why did all the spells seem to be the same color (a misty chrome blue)? Hell, did Avada Kedavra even have any green? This leads to my next point:
- The WHOLE ALLURE of the Harry Potter franchise is MAGIC! Was it just me or did Hogwarts seem empty and devoid of ANY magic? There were no moving portraits (Dumbledore's only moved slightly because it was actually focused on), no moving staircases, and no ghosts, just to name a few?
- Missing crucial plot elements. There were only three memories (two, if you count the tampered and untampered ones as the same), yet others explain part of the mystery behind Voldemort's past and horcruxes. An attack on the Burrow? Why was this necessary? To represent all the attacks by Death Eaters against the wizard community? In the books, Harry finds about multiple occurrences of this second-hand. I understand it needed to be cut down, but why couldn't the attack on Diagon Alley stand for such a thing? Or even, why couldn't a fellow student just mention it to Harry after reading it in the Daily Prophet? If you're answer to my question was "They added it in to show the relationship between Harry and Ginny.", here is a response: They did that in the book without an unnecessary attack on the Burrow. Not to mention Harry Potter is not about teen love, it's about Harry Potter and his journey. Also, what happened to the Battle of the Lightning Struck Tower? According to the producers it was left out because they "didn't want it to get repetitive for the battle in the final film". Er, what? The two battles are completely different and each serve different purposes to the storyline. Goes to show that the guys behind this movie have no creativity at all. Last but not least, where was the funeral? Without it, Dumbledore's death was completely unemotional. The book actually made you feel for it; the movie, however, does not. How about we cut most of the awkward teen love scenes and create a worthy adaption, David Yates?
No, HBP wasn't terrible, not in the slightest. To book fans, though, we left the theater being disappointed.Sincerely,
