Facebook schooling equality

We, members of the homeschool community, and supporters of such, feel that Facebook Inc is violating the anti-discrimination laws of the United States of America by engaging in the following activities:

1. By excluding the option of “homeschool” from Facebook’s school networks page.
2. By deliberately deleting the profiles of members of the homeschool community who have been forced to not join a school network.
3. By forcing members of the homeschool community to misrepresent themselves by providing false information in order to retain usage of the Facebook site.
4. By refusing to consider options to allow homeschooled students to use the Facebook site, while preserving Facebook Inc’s community integrity.


Furthermore, we feel that Facebook Inc is engaging in false advertising by claiming that “everyone can join”, when in reality, only those who attend a public or private institution of learning can.

Homeschooling is legally recognized in all fifty states as a alternative method of education by the Supreme Court of the United States (427 U.S. 160, 406 U.S. 205, 268 U.S. 510, and 262 U.S. 390), and by engaging in the discriminatory practices described above, Facebook Inc is in violation of United States anti-discrimination laws.

In signing this petition, you agree to the statements set out above, and authorize the Homeschooling Legal Defense Association, or other homeschooling advocacy groups, to use this petition (including possible release of your name) to fight for, and secure the rights of homeschooled students in use of the Facebook site.
