My name is Javier Juarbe, an avid Apple User since 1991. I am also a Pixar movie fan. My 2-year-old son loves Pixar movies and his favorite is Cars. He has also picked up my love for Apple products and can spot them a mile away.
The first time I saw Cars at the movie theater, my family and I were the only ones who jumped, pointed at the screen and shouted Look, an Apple Car!" Now my son calls me to his room just a minute before the Apple 84 car shows up. In the limited vocabulary of a 2 year old he shouts Dad, Dad, come, Apple, Car, coming, coming.
I have bought just about every die cast car from the movie for my son. His room is decorated in the "Cars" movie theme, and I am sure this is the same for many kids around the world. I will love to point out the quality and amazing detail of the entire Cars line by Mattel, a brand that had much to do with me as a child and now with my own son. (Who in my generation did not play or own Big Jim or Malibu Barbie?)
As a Mac/Pixar fan, I understand the significance between Apples 84 car cameo in the movie, and the history of Apple, Pixar and Disney as companies. Apples domination of the digital entertainment market with the iPod/ iTunes Store, and the historic PixarDisney deal, made it more than appropriate for the appearance of car 84 in the movie. That was the year the Macintosh was introduced and the famous Superbowl XVIII commercial. These are events still discussed today within computer and advertising circles.
So today I ask Mattel, Disney-Pixar and Apple, on behalf of the Mac Users Group of which I preside, car collectors, and Pixar and Apple fans around the world, one simple thing:
We want a die cast Apple 84 car!
It would be as historic for Mattel, Apple and Disney-Pixar as the aforementioned events. It will unite fans from all circles just like the movie united the animation and NASCAR worlds, and created further interest in the history of Route 66. I am sure it will become an instant collectors item, sought after by fans, and it will do justice to a split second in the movie that means so much to a lot of people. To all companies involved with this type of decision, please consider our petition.
