Democratic Principles at Imperial College |
To: Members of the Council of Imperial College of Science, Technology and MedicineWe the undersigned:
1. Express our deep disappointment at the decision of the Council of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine on 14th July 2006 to reject a motion formally recognising the Faculty Student Associations of Imperial College by the titles chosen by students through referenda.
2. Call upon the Council to accept the democratic will of Imperial College students, as expressed through referenda and resolutions of the Imperial College Union Council, by formally titling the Faculty Student Associations as follows:
• The Faculty of Engineering Students Association shall be titled “City and Guilds College Union”
• The Faculty of Medicine Students Association shall be titled “Imperial College School of Medicine Students’ Union”
• The Faculty of Natural Sciences Students’ Association shall be titled “Royal College of Science Union”
3. Call upon Imperial College Union and its members to act to raise awareness of this campaign during the year of the College’s centenary and to put pressure on the College Council to reconsider this petty, misguided and autocratic decision.
Sincerely,
