IPSC Petition to the Board of Eircom PLC (Ireland)

The recent attacks by Israel on the people of Gaza left more than 1,300 people dead including over 300 children. The blockade of Gaza continues. The eyes of the world are once again focused on the brutal nature of Israel's occupation of Palestinian land and relentless persecution of its people. Israel’s actions are contrary to rules of international law and show a complete disregard the basic human rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) has learnt that an IBM led consortium, which includes the Israeli company Amdocs, may soon win a major contract with Eircom plc for a new computer billing system.

Such a move would contravene the international boycott campaign against Israel. Political organizations and civil society within Palestine, and among others in Ireland the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, have called for a boycott and divestment campaign against Israel until such time as they reverse their settlement construction, illegal occupation and annexation of land in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Eircom must show respect for the people of Palestine living under illegal occupation by refusing to sign their proposed multi-million euro billing contract with any consortium containing the Israeli company, Amdocs.

Amdocs, with a turnover of 2.8 billion dollars in 2007, is a key player in the Israeli economy, encouraged and supported by the Israeli government. It would be a major boost to Israel - fresh from the invasion of Gaza - for the consortium that includes Amdocs to receive this Eircom contract. Amdocs has over a quarter of its workforce in Israel and has declared its support for the 'security' policies of the Israeli government. In the US, Amdocs has been investigated by the FBI for its links with an Israeli spying scandal in Washington.

The IPSC and other groups are calling on Eircom plc not to grant this important contract to this Israeli company, a contract which will provide Amdocs with sensitive information on Irish customers.

Israel must understand that the there cannot be a return to business-as-usual, after its massacre in Gaza and ongoing brutal occupation of Palestine.

- We, the undersigned, call upon Eircom plc to show their support for the Rule of International Law and Respect for Human Rights by refusing to enter into any contract with Amdocs.
