Dubai's Grant of Pardon for Portuguese director Ivo Ferreira

Ivo has been granted his pardon and was finally released, according to today's (11.05.2005) papers. Apparently, the pardon was granted by the Emir himself at the instance of Portuguese diplomacy. Thanks to everyone who showed up at this page and gave their support to Ivo.

Ivo Ferreira is a promising Portuguese cinema director and actor, currently imprisoned at the Jabal Ali jail for, allegedly, drug consumption. Ivo was in Dubai to shoot a documentary for television broadcast, and got jailed after the police searched the house where he was staying and found signs of hashish consumption. We, his friends and admirers, are deeply worried with the prospect of losing Ivo, a mild and caring son, father, friend and colleague, now at the spring of his life and creative powers. Conscious and respectful to the laws of your country, we bid Your Highness to grant him a quick pardon and release from jail.
