Against Draft for Iraq War

We, the Undersigned, protest the possibility for a draft for the Iraq War, a war that 67% of American citizens are against. America is involved in a war that many of our allies refuse to send soldiers to because they believe it is a lost cause. Also, in the past year and a half, a secret bill has been going around Congress, that has recently leaked out, that states: “To provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes,” [S.89.]. This means that the new President and other members of the US government will decide how many people, if any, will be drafted for the Iraq War. Presidential candidate John McCain said, “[this] war is necessary and just.” He also said, “[I] will do whatever I can to win this war.” This means that if John McCain is elected President, a draft could come into effect.
To solve this problem, the American citizens need to take into account these facts. When voting, you must consider that you could be drafted, regardless of your sex. Also, another possible solution would be for John McCain to reconsider his policy, even though that is very unlikely. This is a major factor in the 2008 election that could hurt him. In addition, take this fact into account. Of the 435 Congressmen and 100 Senators, only on of them has there children in Iraq even though many of the Congressmen has children of drafting age. If they are going to send the American citizens’ children to die, they should at least send their children first to prove that they truly believe in this war. Overall, you, the voter, must consider your options and how you want to use this information.
